Fresh Start Housing Scheme helping 56 families

Minister of National Development Lawrence Wong revealed that a total of 56 families are making the transition to become homeowners again via HDB’s Fresh Start Housing Scheme, reported Channel NewsAsia.

Introduced in December 2016, this programme enables eligible second-timer families living in rental flats to purchase a new two-room flexi flat at an affordable price as these come with shorter leases of 45 to 65 years. To provide a stable home for their kids, these families are required to stay there for at least 20 years.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday (5 December), Wong noted that out of the 56 families, 33 have already successfully applied for a flexi flat.

Among them is Mdm Kalaivani and her two daughters, who are presently leasing a flat in Clementi. They were enrolled in the scheme in March and successfully booked a unit in Bukit Batok under the Sale of Balance Flats (SBF) exercise last May.

“Mdm Kalaivani and her family can look forward to collecting the keys to their new home early next year. I wish them the best of luck on their new homeownership journey,” said Wong.
